Zusammenfassung

Diese Übersicht diskutiert die verschiedenen direkten und indirekten Methoden zur qualitativen bzw. quantitativen Messung der Gesamtkörper-Eisenreserven des Menschen (1.1–1.4), ihre Korrelation mit dem Serumferritin (2.1–2.3 und 3.1–3.2), die definierten Bereiche und Mittelwerte der Serumferritinkonzentration für nahezu homogene Kollektive von Personen mit normalen Eisenreserven bzw. mit verschiedenen Stadien des Eisenmangels (4.1–4.4), die vorhandene Korrelation zwischen Serumferritin und Gesamtkörper-Eisenreserven unter physiologischen Bedingungen und bei bestimmten Erkrankungen (5.1–5.6), die nicht bestehende Korrelation bei vermehrter Ferritinfreisetzung (6.1), gesteigerter Ferritinbiosynthese (6.2) und während der Eisentherapie (6.3). Die abschließende Diskussion vergleicht den diagnostischen Wert des Serumferritins mit der diagnostischen Wertigkeit der übrigen meßbaren biochemischen Parameter des Eisenstoffwechsels (7).
