Abstract

For many mammalian species there are now descriptions of marked annual cycles in reproductive activity which are usually accompanied by distinct changes in size and functional state of gonads and accessory glands. Among the external factors that regulate these seasonal cycles day length, and its seasonal variations play a major role. Considerable experimental effort has been made to analyze the underlying mechanism; and many of these investigations have been conducted on hamsters.
