Abstract
The previous chapters of this book have shown that the concept of tiredness/fatigue is still ill defined. Its quaUtative exploration in the chapter “A Qualitative Exploration of the Concept of Fatigue/Tiredness in Cancer Patients and in Healthy Individuals” gave new insight into the experience of fatigue. The comparison of these findings with concepts in existing measurement instruments showed a lack of valid instruments for epidemiological fatigue research in cancer patients and eventually led to the construction of the new Fatigue Assessment Questionnaire (FAQ), which was then tested in cancer patients and healthy individuals. The next study now attempts to measure the relationship of fatigue in cancer patients with different types and stages of cancer, using this new FAQ. At the same time, the study allows a further vahdation process of FAQ in a larger cancer patient population.
