Die menschliche Evolution war immer begleitet von einem körperlich aktiven Lebensstil und einer Ernährung, die v. a. aus Gemüse und Wildfrüchten und nur sehr gelegentlichem Fleischkonsum bestand. Da sich unsere Gene in den letzten 50.000 Jahren nicht wesentlich verändert haben, erklären sich viele heutige chronische Erkrankungen, u. a. auch die Adipositas, aus der Nichtangepasstheit unserer an das Jagen und Sammeln adaptierten genetischen Ausstattung an einen von Inaktivität und Überernährung geprägten Lebensstil.
