Abstract
Britons, it has often been said, ‘have never been very comfortable with the idea of childhood’; indeed, it seems that we ‘just don’t like children much’ (Time, 26 March 2008). The latest poll, conducted by YouGov on behalf of Barnardo’s, the Children’s charity, appears to confirm this impression as it yields further evidence of ageist prejudice.
