Zusammenfassung
In unterschiedlichen Zusammenhängen werden die Folgen der Einbindung in die Herkunftsgruppe in Form ethnisch geprägter Netzwerke und Kontexte für den Bildungserwerb von Kindern und Jugendlichen aus Zuwandererfamilien diskutiert. Zum Teil wird dabei von negativen, zum Teil von positiven Konsequenzen ausgegangen. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden die zugrunde liegenden Überlegungen aufgegriffen und systematisiert. Hierzu werden zunächst Argumente und Mechanismen zu den vermuteten Effekten zusammengetragen und auf die Bildungssituation der zugewanderten Bevölkerung bezogen. Daran anschließend werden empirische Befunde zu den Einflüssen der ethnischen Einbettung präsentiert. Die Darstellung des Forschungsstands umfasst vor allem Studien, die sich auf Effekte der sprachlichen oder ethnischen Zusammensetzung des Umfelds richten oder in denen Einflüsse der ethnischen Netzwerke untersucht werden. Außerdem werden Ergebnisse geschildert, die sich in direkterer Weise der Überprüfung der ablaufenden Prozesse widmen.

Mit „ethnischer Einbettung“ wird im Folgenden die Einbindung in einen bestimmten, ethnisch geprägten Kontext bezeichnet. Zumeist wird die Einbettung auf die Herkunftsgruppe bezogen. In Anbetracht der vielfältigen empirischen Umsetzung soll an dieser Stelle eine etwas weitere Definition Anwendung finden, die eigenethnisch geprägte Netzwerke und ‚communities‘ ebenso einbezieht wie Alltagskontexte, in denen sich Personen der eigenen Herkunftsgruppe und/oder ethnische Minderheiten bzw. Individuen mit Zuwanderungshintergrund konzentrieren.

Die Ergebnisse decken sich in Teilen mit den Befunden zweier Metaanalysen zu den Effekten für verschiedene benachteiligte Gruppen mehrheitlich in den USA (vgl. Mickelson et al. <link rid="bib91">2013</link>; van Ewijk und Sleegers <link rid="bib135">2010</link>). Sie zeigen, dass höhere Anteile von Migranten und ethnischen Minderheiten einen geringen negativen Einfluss auf den Bildungserfolg von Mitgliedern dieser Gruppen ausüben, jedoch kaum einen auf die Mehrheitspopulation. Werden Effekte der Zusammensetzung nach einzelnen Herkunftsgruppen betrachtet, so resultieren etwas stärkere Einflüsse. Außerdem scheinen die Nachteile in der Sekundarstufe etwas größer auszufallen als in der Primarstufe.
