Abstract
Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) is a relatively new mass-analysis method suitable for the analysis of biological molecules (1–3). Compared to other mass-analysis methods, MALDI-MS is based on simpler instrumentation that is more easily operated and so is more readily accessible to laboratories without prior experience in mass spectrometry. In addition, the method is sensitive and capable of high throughput. Its use in biochemical laboratories is already widespread, despite its recent introduction and the continued development of MALDI-MS instrumentation and applications.
