Microstructural Effects of High Strain Rate Deformation

  • Chapter
Metallurgical Effects at High Strain Rates

Abstract

This paper constitutes an attempt to present the current state of knowledge of the effects of high strain rates on the microstructures of metals and alloys. It is limited, arbitrarily, to the effects produced by the passage of planar shock waves of known amplitude; i.e., to the effects of uniaxial strain.
