Radiologic evaluation and treatment of gallbladder and biliary tree carcinoma

  • Chapter
Hepatobiliary Cancer

Part of the book series: Cancer Treatment and Research ((CTAR,volume 69))

Abstract

Gallbladder carcinoma is the fifth most common GI malignancy, comprising 1–3% of all malignancies. It occurs in the sixth and seventh decades. The incidence is several times higher in women and is much higher in certain racial groups, including southwestern American Indians and Mexican American women. There is also an increased incidence in workers in the automotive, metal, rubber, and textile industries [1,2,5]. Gallbladder carcinoma is two to three times more common than biliary ductal malignancies.
