Abstract
The field of ecobehavioral assessment, still relatively new, is in a period of rapid evolution. The early calls for methodological expansion (e.g., Wahler & Fox, 1981; Willems, 1974) have been answered by a group of studies marked by their diversity and innovation, and although there is some agreement about general goals and directions, there is little clear consensus about the specific methodological and conceptual paths to effective treatment of children and adults with developmental disabilities. A picture of ecobehavioral assessment is beginning to emerge, however, and the following pages will be devoted to enumerating its important features. Finally, we will outline some areas for future development.
