Abstract
Recent years there is growing evidence of iron overloading involvement in the pathology of atherosclerosis, cancer, hepatitis, diabetes, diseases of joints. Reactions of free radical oxidation are involved in the pathology of most, if not all, human diseases. Free radical oxidation seems to be involved also in disease development in “iron overloaded” patients with high levels of the so-called “free iron” in tissues (the catalysis of peroxidation). This idea is supported, in particular, by severe cardiovascular disorders observed when excess ascorbic acid is given to iron-overloaded patients. This as well as our observations suggest the problem of exogenic iron role in steel and cast iron welders’ pathologv development.
