Synthesis and characterization of polylactic/polycaprolactone/hydroxyapatite (PLA/PCL/HAp) scaffolds

Abstract

Scaffolds made with hydroxyapatite (HAp), polylactic acid (PLA), and commercial polycaprolactone (PCL) were developed. HAp was synthesized by the wet chemical precipitation method, while semicrystalline PLA was obtained by a monomer ring-opening polymerization, displacing air with helium gas. This synthesis modification has not been described previously. Subsequently, by solvent casting/salt leaching, both compositions of the scaffolds were designed: HAp10-PLA10-PCL80 and HAp30-PLA10-PCL60. DSC/TGA. SEM, XRD, and FTIR were characterized. The overall results illustrate that scaffolds of these compounds display satisfactory morphology and thermal properties.
