The comparative study of mindfulness in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, typically developing children, and their mothers

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the levels of mindfulness in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to those in typically developing children and their mothers. The current study was descriptive and employed a comparative causal approach. The samples included 100 children diagnosed with ADHD and their mothers and 100 typically developing children and their mothers, who were chosen using the convenience sampling method. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Child Acceptance and Mindfulness Measure (CAMM), and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) were used in this study. The findings indicated a significant positive correlation between the levels of mindfulness among children with and without ADHD and those of their mothers. Moreover, children with ADHD and their mothers demonstrated a significantly lower level of mindfulness than children with typical development and their mothers. In conclusion, the mindfulness of children and their mothers is a linked topic, and childhood mental disorders such as ADHD reduces the mindfulness of children and their mothers.
