Zusammenfassung
Die Kryokonservierung ist die praktische Umsetzung des wissenschaftlichen Gebiets der Kryobiologie. Sie wurde vor allem in den letzten zwei Jahrhunderten entwickelt und hat wichtige Meilensteine im Bereich der Tierreproduktion gesetzt. Technologien wie das gerichtete Einfrieren von Spermien und die Spermientrocknung sowie das Einfrieren von Eizellen und Embryonen und die Vitrifikation werden in diesem Kapitel diskutiert und beschrieben. Nachfolgend beschreiben wir die wichtigsten Durchbrüche der letzten zwei Jahrhunderte und die Aussichten für die nahe Zukunft.
