Abstract

Anorectal emergencies comprise a wide variety of diseases that share commons symptoms, that is, anorectal pain or bleeding, and might require immediate management. For these reasons, making a correct differential diagnosis is crucial. An incorrect recognition is frequent for anorectal diseases, and it is demonstrated that a delayed diagnosis is frequently related to an adverse outcome. Based on a throughout revision of the available literature, this chapter aims to improve the knowledge and the awareness on this specific topic and to provide a useful tool for every physician dealing with anorectal emergencies.
