Readying the Researcher for Fieldwork in Healthcare

  • Chapter
Fieldwork for Healthcare

Abstract

This chapter is designed to help you prepare to undertake fieldwork in healthcare. Healthcare is an exciting and challenging domain where we might expose ourselves to events that are not experienced in normal workplaces or everyday life. These experiences could make you think about your own mortality and quality of life differently, you might have to face things you are not comfortable with, and this context might lead you to question or reaffirm what you think is valuable in work and life more generally. The work can involve sensitive and emotionally challenging situations. The work could also bring with it special considerations and rules to protect your safety and the safety of participants.
