Abstract

This chapter links the community resilience approach and healthcare services during emergencies, especially from the nursing perspective, and the implementation of the SDGs. The chapter portrays the development of the resilience paradigm. It describes the framework of the Conjoint Community Resilience Assessment Measure (CCRAM) with a focus on the resilience of healthcare services during emergencies. Since the resilience approach emphasizes the importance of the community’s internal resources and the community’s capacity to thrive in the face of emergencies, the principles of sustainable perceptions are advanced, and the feasibility of implementing the SDGs is increased. Local healthcare professionals, especially nurses, serve as a critical resource for their community in emergencies. Beyond their medical professionalism, they usually speak the native language and are aware of hidden symbols, meaning, and cultural context. Reviewing the difficulties of SDGs’ implementation, we suggest that the role of nurses during emergencies could help to bridge these gaps, increasing the synergies between the SDGs targets, highlighting nurses’ education, knowledge, and treatment competencies.
