Abstract

Traditionally, KTM has grown in the off-road motorcycle business. Engines for these applications are different from car engine architecture. The discrepancies are driven by the different applications and usage. Traction and air drag coefficient are the technical differentiation factors for off-road engine engineering. Historically, off-road engines are two-stroke engines. Two-stroke bikes are still very competitive in all off-road competitions, but their numbers are constantly falling due to worldwide companies’ policies.
