Abstract
Following the introduction of Halsted’s radical mastectomy in 1894, breast surgery emerged as a reliable and effective method of treating primary breast cancer. To this day, breast surgery remains a central component in the treatment of breast cancer, as well as a major part of many general surgeons’ clinical practices. Many surgeons, both in practice and in residency, are choosing to focus on a career in breast cancer surgery. This chapter highlights different aspects of this career choice and outlines breast surgery fellowship goals and opportunities.
