Functional Materials and their Nanocomposites for Energy and Biomedical Applications

Functional materials including polymers, proteins metals/ceramics and their nanocomposites are fascinating materials, which possess exceptional characteristics and properties. Recently, the evaluation of nanomaterials and their physio-chemical properties and structures have made a great impact on the fabrication of novel nanocomposite devices. They find applications in many fields exclusively in flexible electronic devices for energy harvesting and other electrical appliances. Due to their adequate mechanical properties, stimuli-responsive, mimicking extracellular matrix (ECM) morphology, and cell compatibility, it has been used as a scaffold, drug carrier, and implants for biomedical sectors. However, one should achieve a better nanomaterial dispersion and distribution in nanocomposites to obtain a desired technical property including mechanical, electrical, and biological properties. Apart from this, several surface functionalization techniques can promote the nanofiller dispersion in any matrix. However, despite the development of various new functional materials/nanocomposites, many challenges and limitations need to be addressed that related to a complete understanding of the improvement in mechanical, physio-chemical, electrical, and biological properties of nanocomposites.

The objective of this special issue to collect recent information about functional materials and their nanocomposites for energy and biomedical applications through diverse fields of researchers such as tissue engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, biomaterials, and physics as well. This special issue will also inspire and highlight the novel approaches, models, theories, and key features of recent advancements in functional materials and their nanocomposites for energy and biomedical applications. Research papers, communication, letters, reviews, and mini-reviews are welcome to submit.
