Leadership for Teamwork, Teamwork for Leadership

  • Chapter
Building the Team Organization

Abstract

Joel, Senior Vice President for Customer Relationships at Community Bank, was brooding about that morning’s meeting with his boss, Gregory, and his loan officer colleagues, Courtney and Thomas. Gregory had long referred to them as the loan officers’ group and sometimes the marketing team when he wanted to emphasize that they should be more aggressive in developing loans. Under pressure from Daniel, the bank’s new president, he was, in turn, ratcheting up pressure on them. Gregory said the bank was considering changing the bonus formula to be based on group performance, not individual.

Managers work with and through others to get things done.
