Abstract

This chapter examines several films from the perspective of the intergenerational interactions that result from the increasing number of cases of Alzheimer’s disease across both developed and developing countries. It contextualises the films under study within their respective national/local cultures, thus explaining both how they represent Alzheimer’s and how the concepts of family and caregiving differ according to each country’s cultural framework. It sheds light on the crucial role played by religion, ethnicity, and gender in these cultures. In addition, it investigates the use of the trope of Alzheimer’s in exploring national identity.
