Ultrastructural Investigations on the Pituitary-Gonadal Axis

Abstract

In the progression of placental development, it could be generally stated that the initial placenta encountered is endotheliochorial, which soon after changes into the hemochorial one. The term placenta of Rousettus (Bhiwgade 1990), with the hemochorial condition, is observed to be derived as a post-modification of the endotheliochorial condition, immediately after the trilaminar blastocyst stage, and not after midgestation as previously reported (Gopalakrishna and Karim 1980). We have examined six stages of Rousettus placenta from trilaminar blastocyst stage till the term to understand the better nature of the interhemal membrane.
