Abstract
The present work highlights the potential applications of Peristophe roxburghiana. Peristophe roxburghiana also known as ‘‘Magenta plant’’ is a food colourant. It is a natural plant found in Southern Asia and Africa along the watercourses in the forest, coconut groves, or even cultivated lands under a conducive temperature. Peristophe roxburghiana is traditionally used as therapy for ailments such as tuberculosis, phlegm, acute bronchitis, hepatitis B, diarrhoea etc. The extraction procedure and characteristics of Peristophe roxburghiana are discussed in this review. Furthermore, Peristophe roxburghiana has established its usefulness as food colouring matter with potentials for dyeing other materials such as textile fabrics. This article seeks to explore the possible application of the leaves dye extract for textile materials such as cotton colouration.
