Abstract

Sarcoma imaging is crucial prior to tissue sampling in order to suggest a diagnosis, evaluate the primary lesion location and critical structure involvement, and assess additional lesions and pathologies that will affect prognosis and treatment. All imaging modalities have their benefits and drawbacks, with CT, MRI and FDG-PET CT being most commonly used. Lesion biopsy should be performed with consideration of the surgical approach and generally aims to traverse a minimum of tissue planes. Interventional Radiology is being used increasingly for  pre-operative embolization and pain management. Artificial Intelligence and deep learning are aiding in diagnosis, treatment response assessment and workflow optimisation.
