Increasing VA-mycorrhization with applications of rhizosphere bacteria

Abstract

In mycorrhized root systems, rhizosphere flora has a special quality (Meyer and Linderman, 1986). It appeared useful to search for microorganisms, able to stimulate mycorrhizal infection. Especially in the early phase of symbiosis an enhancement of VAM might increase its known positive effects. When such VAM-increasing bacterial effects can be verified in native soils, perhaps it will be possible to combine mycorrhizal and bacterial inocula. Thus, the inoculated mycorrhizal fungus might be more competitive in the soil.
