Abstract

Optical filters or optical multiplexers/demultiplexers are indispensable for the construction of WDM or optical FDM systems as in Ishio, Minowa and Nosu (1984) and Nosu, Toba and Iwashita (1987). The advent of coherent light sources has enabled us to densely pack optical carriers in the optical frequency region as is possible in radio communication systems. In order to multi/demultiplex narrowly spaced optical signals, we need filters with high resolution. Some filter configurations developed for microwave and millimeter-wave systems can be applied to optical FDM systems as in Ohtomo, Shimada and Suzuki (1971).
