Part of the book series: Current Topics in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science ((CTVM,volume 41))

Abstract

It is surprising that so little work has been done on the effects of the reticulo-rumen on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs given to ruminant animals. Considering the large effort and expense that has been made evaluating drugs, especially antibacterials and anthelmintics, in clinical trials, much of this effort could have been saved by an initial understanding of the fate of the drug.
