Abstract
Stone pine is native to the Mediterranean region, from Portugal to Asia Minor. Stone pine nut, Pinus pinea was confirmed as an autochthonous species of the Iberian peninsula in Spain (Martinez and Monetero 2004). Pine nuts has been cultivated for its nuts for over 6,000 years in Europe and harvested from wild trees for far longer. Most of the seeds are collected or harvested in Spain (especially in Catalonia, Castilla, León), Portugal, Italy (Sicily), Turkey and China from both wild and cultivated stands.
