Abstract
Lieferantenentwicklung als integraler Bestandteil eines systematischen Lieferantenmanagements gewinnt in der unternehmerischen Praxis und der wissenschaftlichen Diskussion zunehmend an Bedeutung. Letzteres unterstreicht die beachtliche Anzahl von 31 auf großzahligen Erhebungen basierenden Publikationen zum Thema, von denen knapp zwei Drittel erst in den vergangenen acht Jahren veröffentlicht wurden. Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrages ist es, den Stand der empirischen Forschung zur Lieferantenentwicklung zusammenzufassen, im Hinblick auf inhaltliche, theoretische und methodische Schwerpunkte zu analysieren und Lücken für die weitere Forschung aufzuzeigen.
Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die bisherigen Studien inhaltlich unterschiedliche Akzente setzen und wesentliche Zusammenhänge empirisch beleuchtet wurden. Nichtsdestotrotz bestehen inhaltliche Forschungslücken in Bezug auf die Untersuchung der Verknüpfung von gesetzten Zielen und erreichten Ergebnissen, der Wirtschaftlichkeit direkter Lieferantenentwicklung, der Aufteilung der Ergebnisse zwischen Abnehmer und Lieferant sowie den Rahmenfaktoren für Lieferantenentwicklung. Die theoretische Fundierung der Mehrheit der Studien muss als unzureichend bezeichnet werden. Methodische Lücken bestehen in Bezug auf die geographische Ausgewogenheit der Datenbasis, die differenzierte Betrachtung von Industrien, den Mangel an dyadischen Erhebungen und Längsschnittstudien sowie die Datenermittlung durch subjektive Befragungen.
