Zusammenfassung
Als es Ende der 1980er Jahre an einer deutschen Universität um die Etablierung eines MBA-Programms mit dem Schwerpunkt „Europa” und mit einer substanziellen Schwerpunktsetzung auf „Umgang mit Unterschiedlichkeiten“ ging, waren sich Vertreter von Unternehmen, Verbänden und Politik weit gehend einig: Ein solches Programm braucht Europa nicht, da zumindest innerhalb der EU die Länder so rasch und eng zusammenwachsen, dass landesspezifische Unterschiede keine Rolle mehr spielen würden. Zentrale Basis dieser Vermutung der Unnötigkeit war also die Hypothese, wonach Konvergenzprozesse in Europa nicht mehr aufzuhalten seien und gerade eine Pointe von Europa in einem Nivellieren der noch verbliebenen Unterschiede läge.
