Zusammenfassung
Die Analyse von Aktienkursen, bzw. – allgemeiner – von Finanzmarktzeitreihen, weist eine lange Tradition auf. Als Geburtsstunde der Finanzmathematik wird oft der 29. März 1900 gesehen. An diesem Tag verteidigte der französische Student Louis Bachélier seine Arbeit zur Analyse von Aktien- und Optionspreisen bzw. -märkten. Üblicherweise stehen bei der Analyse nicht die Niveaus (Preise, vgl. Abb. 24.1) der Zeitreihen (z.B. Aktien- oder Wechselkurse) selbst, sondern deren einperiodische Veränderungsraten, die sogenannten Renditen, im Fokus (vgl. Abb. 24.2). Während Bachélier implizit unabhängige und identisch normalverteilte Renditeverteilungen unterstellte, wurde die Aufmerksamkeit von E.F. Fama im Jahr 1963 auf unabhängig und identisch verteilte Renditemodelle mit schweren Rändern (sogenannte α-stabile Verteilungen) gelenkt. Ging man lange Jahre von unabhängigen Renditeverteilungen aus, so herrscht mittlerweile Konsens über die Existenz von Abhängigkeiten höherer Ordnung bei den Renditen, insbesondere bei den quadrierten Renditen bzw. Volatilitäten. Einen Meilenstein in der Modellierung der Volatilitäten von Finanzmarktrenditen setzte Robert F. Engle im Jahr 1982 mit seiner Publikation über autoregressive, bedingt heteroskedastische („Autoregressive Conditionally Heteroscedastic“, kurz ARCH-)Modelle. Bis heute stellen diese (sowie deren unzählige Verallgemeinerungen) den Standard in Wissenschaft wie Finanzmarktpraxis dar und werden sowohl für den uni- als auch den multivariaten Fall nachfolgend diskutiert.
