Summary

One hundred and eleven sequential “normal” CAT scans have been reviewed and ventricular dimensions and thalamo-capsular laterality measured.

  1. 1.

There is no direct correlation between third ventricular width and age (after 15 years).

  2. 2.

Male third ventricular mean width (4.8 mm) is slightly greater than female (4.1 mm).

  3. 3.

There is a wide variation of thalamo-capsular laterality.

Pre-operative CAT scan measurements are helpful in stereotactic thalamic surgery.
