Summary

The present paper reports a comparative study about the immediate and short term results in a series of 15 patients treated with the new technique of microcompression, 15 with glycerol injection and 15 with thermorhizotomy. From a structural and ultrastructural study of the Gasserian ganglion after microcompression in rabbits and from the trigeminal somatosensory evoked potentials (TSEP) in 45 patients treated with the three different techniques, the authors put forward the assumption that it should be possible to make an estimation of the long-term results in the microcompression and glycerol procedures too.
