Abstract

Soft Fe LIII,II X-ray emission spectra of wustite have been recorded by EPMA in the 690–730 eV energy range. Using these spectra for different electron beam excitation voltages, the self-absorption Fe LIII-spectrum was formed. By comparing Fe LIII,II X-ray emission and Fe LIII-self-absorption spectra of wustite, relative energies of the valence-conduction band orbitals could be determined as well as the splitting of these orbitals in the crystal field and the size of their spin splitting.
