Zusammenfassung
Die vielfältigen und hoch differenzierten Leistungen unseres vestibulären Systems sind nur durch das fein abgestimmte Zusammenspiel zahlreicher neuronaler vestibulärer Netzwerke möglich. Dabei stellen diese Verbindungen keine Einbahnstraßen dar, welche lediglich die afferente vestibuläre Information von der Peripherie ins ZNS leiten. Vielmehr findet eine ständige Modulation der vestibulären Afferenzen durch die efferente Innervation statt, deren Ursprungsneurone im Hirnstamm liegen. Im Falle des Funktionsverlustes eines Vestibularorgans ist die Reorganisation vestibulärer Netzwerke die Grundlage für die zentrale Kompensation des peripher-vestibulären Defizits.
