Die ökonomische Dynamik politischer Herrschaft

Zusammenfassung

Seit der Abwertung des thailändischen Baht im Juli 1997 wurden große Teile des pazifischen Asiens von Währungsturbulenzen erschüttert. Die Folge war eine Reihe von Problemen, welche die einstmals bestaunten Wirtschaftswunderländer in eine tiefe wirtschaftliche und oftmals auch politische Krise stürzten. 1993 hatte die Internationale Bank für Wiederaufbau und Entwicklung (Weltbank) in ihrem Jahresbericht die Region noch als „ostasiatisches Wunder“ betitelt und das dortige Entwicklungsmodell als nachahmenswerte Strategie für andere Regionen gewürdigt. Der Ausbruch der sogenannten Asienkrise beendete gleichwohl den Fortschrittsoptimismus und den damit einhergehenden Traum von immer neuen Wachstumsrekorden.
