Zusammenfassung

Je nach den historischen und gesellschaftlichen Umständen verlaufen Urbanisierungsprozesse weltweit nach sehr unterschiedlichen Mustern. Dieses Kapitel versucht nicht, den Urbanisierungsprozess in China in seiner Komplexität umfassend zu beschreiben, sondern beschränkt sich auf Besonderheiten der zeitgenössischen Urbanisierungsvorgänge in China. Der Beitrag zeigt, dass das Klischee eines vom Nationalstaat gesteuerten Urbanisierungsprozess in China nicht der Realität entspricht. Er ist vielmehr das Ergebnis von Aushandlungs- und Entscheidungsprozessen verschiedener Akteure, zu denen der Nationalstaat, lokale Regierungen ebenso wie Bewohnerkollektive und Investoren gehören.
