Im Unterschied zur mikrobiellen Kultur, wo die einzelne Zelle bereits einen Organismus für sich darstellt, wird in der Säugerzellkultur eine Zelle aus dem Gewebeverband herausgelöst und unter In-vitro-Bedingungen gehalten.
