Liposuction

Abstract

Liposuction can be successfully used on many occasions to drain a large post-traumatic hematoma or to manage a postsurgical hematoma, enhancing the posttreatment appearance of the patient and reducing the recovery time. The author describes the technique of liposuction used for post-traumatic and postsurgical hematomas and discusses the possible complications. Liposuction is effective for the treatment of coagulated postsurgical hematomas occurring under a simple, direct suture line. It is less reliable for evacuation of hematomas that occur under large flaps and grafts, but nevertheless it can be performed with the intent to reduce the overlying skin necrosis.
