Abstract
Quantitative differences in the expression of HLA antigens have been shown to influence T-cell mediated immune responses. On murine lymphocytes and thymocytes (1), as well as on human cell lines (2), differential expression of MHC class I antigens has been described. For further insight into regulation of HLA class I antigen expression, DNA-mediated gene transfer has been applied. L(tk−) cells transfected with the genes coding for the heavy chain of the HLA-A2 and -B7 antigen revealed a two to three times more increased expression of the HLA-B compared to the HLA-A locus molecule after stimulation with mouse interferon (3).
