Abstract

In this chapter we attempt to give some reflection of the discussions during the symposium. Since discussions by themselves are already selective and only some of the points raised can be represented here, these summaries must be to some extent an arbitrary collection of arguments. However, not only for beginners, but also for experts in the art of isolating myocytes, it might be helpful to hear some of these informal suggestions and criticisms. It may turn out that some of the arguments become quickly out of date. But this would be a promising perspective, since the state of the art still urgently demands very basic investigations. It certainly will favour a rapid further development of the myocyte model, when experts of all the technical disciplines interested in this model meet again and communicate, in spite of differences in their specific interest.
