Zusammenfassung
Die Bedeutung von Videospiel-Streaming und Let’s Plays sind nicht nur aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie enorm gestiegen. Das Aufnehmen und Teilen von Gaming-Sessions hat sich längst vom Status eines Nischen-Hobbys verabschiedet und ist nun Teil eines umfassenden Geschäftsmodells, das mit Affiliate Links und strategischem Marketing der Videospielindustrie verknüpft ist. Bekannte Let’s Player:innen und Streamer:innen nehmen bereits den Status von Prominent:innen ein. Diese Ambivalenz zwischen Unterhalter:in, Meinungsführer:in und Kreativen verändert bereits jetzt das Spielen, die Produktion und Wahrnehmung von Videospielen. Ein Umstand, der die wachsende Relevanz dieser Akteursgruppe in Aufgabenfeldern betont, die bisher dem Gaming-Journalismus unterlagen. Im Beitrag wird nachvollzogen, wie sich das Phänomen über die letzten Jahre hinweg entwickelt hat und welche Kontexte hierbei berücksichtigt werden sollten. Es folgt ein Einblick in die empirische Auseinandersetzung mit Streaming und Let’s Play im Bereich Videospiele, woraufhin einige Ausblicke zur weiteren Entwicklung von und Forschungsmöglichkeiten gegeben werden.
