Zusammenfassung

Die Region des Nahen Ostens genießt in der amerikanischen Politik und Öffentlichkeit hohe Aufmerksamkeit. Seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg hat sich eine stabile Interessenstruktur herausgebildet, die immer wieder zu Interventionen der USA im Nahen Osten geführt hat. Trotz des geopolitischen Bedeutungsverlustes der Region hat auch Donald Trump vitale Interessen der USA formuliert: den Kampf gegen den internationalen Terrorismus und die Eindämmung des Iran. Der Anspruch auf eine Revision der Politik Obamas wird jedoch durch Pfadabhängigkeiten und strukturelle Restriktionen begrenzt.
