Zusammenfassung

Die Politik in Lateinamerika konzentriert sich im Zuge des demokratischen Wandels in den 1980er und 1990er Jahren weiterhin auf die Demokratie. Eine alte Sorge – die Sicherung demokratischer Mindeststandards, die als Ziel der Prozesse des demokratischen Übergangs gedient hat – bleibt relevant. Aber eine neue Sorge – das Erreichen von mehr als einer Minimaldemokratie – verändert die Politik über die Demokratie. Akteure, die entweder für oder gegen den Neoliberalismus – die Schlüsselachse des idelogischen Konflikts – waren, haben Veränderungen im Namen unterschiedlicher Demokratiemodelle befürwortet oder abgelehnt. Welches Demokratiemodell beherrschte und formte nun die Verläufe nach der Transition in Lateinamerika und bestimmte dadurch, wie sich die Demokratie entwickelte und ob die Demokratie Bestand hatte?
