Zusammenfassung
Klientelismus beschreibt eine längerfristige, persönliche und asymmetrische Beziehung zwischen zwei Akteuren, Patron und Klient, in deren Zentrum ein reziproker Austausch von Ressourcen steht. Mit der Diskussion um informale Institutionen in der vergleichenden Politikwissenschaft ist auch Klientelismus wieder stärker ins Interesse gekommen. Im folgenden Beitrag werden zunächst Charakteristika des Konzepts „Klientelismus“ diskutiert, ebenso verwandte Begriffe wie Patrimonialismus, Neopatrimonialismus, Patronage und Korruption. In einem zweiten Teil werden dann Beispiele für empirische Analysen diskutiert, qualitative wie quantitative. Schließlich geht es um Erklärungsansätze, wobei Klientelismus als abhängige und unabhängige Variable gesehen wird, d. h. es geht einerseits um Determinanten, andererseits um Konsequenzen von Klientelismus.
