Rubidomycin

Abstract

Rubidomycin1, obtained from cultures of Streptomyces coeruleorubidus [63, 79, 80, 184], is a basic antibiotic, orange-red in color, belonging to the group studied by Ollis and Sutherland [175]. This group of antibiotics, to which the name of anthracyclines was given by Brockmann [40], includes among others aklavin [208], the cinerubins [84], nogalamycin [223], the pyrromycins [43], the rhodomycins [41], the isorhodomycins [44], and rutilantin [8], most of which possess cytostatic properties. Rubidomycin is identical with daunomycin, an antibiotic2 obtained from cultures of Streptomyces peucetius [52, 68, 69, 71]. This has recently been confirmed by Tong et al. [219 bis].
