Abstract
The genera Bellevalia and Brimeura belong to the Liliaceae family. Bellevalia was established in 1808 by De Lapeyrouse on B. operculata in France, a plant which was, however, identical with Hyacinthus romanus described by Linnaeus. Other species of Bellevalia were also described first asHyacinthus and Muscari. However, since the first half of the nineteenth century, the genus Bellevalia has been accepted by taxonomists and rather well distinguished from allied genera (for example, see Boissier 1884).
