Zusammenfassung

Durch die Einführung neuer bildgebender Verfahren wie Computertomographie und Kernspintomographie in die Psychiatrie kam es zu einer Wiederbelebung des Interesses an der Hirnstruktur psychotischer Patienten. Der mittlerweile von vielen computertomographischen Untersuchungen bestätigte Befund einer mäßiggradigen Erweiterung der inneren und äußeren zerebralen Liquorräume bei einem bedeutenden Prozentsatz schizophrener Patienten (Shelton u. Weinberger 1986; Bogerts et al. 1987) lenkte die Aufmerksamkeit wieder verstärkt auf postmortale Untersuchungen der Hirnstruktur Schizophrener. Die neuropathologisch orientierte Schizophrenieforschung war in der ersten Hälfte dieses Jahrhunderts unter erhebliche Kritik geraten, die einerseits mit damals ungelösten methodischen Problemen statistisch-morphometrischer Art, andererseits aber auch mit mehr psychiatrisch-weltanschaulichen Argumenten begründet wurde.
