Zusammenfassung

1961 veröffentlichte RACKOW eine der ersten Untersuchungen zur Mortalität bei Kinderanästhesien (18). Die Inzidenz eines Herz-Kreislauf-Stillstandes betrug bei Säuglingen 1: 600, bei Kindern 1: 1 700 und bei Erwachsenen 1: 2 500. Er kam zu dem Schluß, daß Hypoxie und unzureichender Volumenersatz mit darauffolgendem Herz-Kreislauf-Zusammenbruch die Hauptursachen anästhesiebedingter kindlicher Todesfälle darstellen. In der Zwischenzeit ist eine Reihe von Publikationen erschienen, die zeigen, daß Kinder unter zwei Jahren trotz verbesserter Vordiagnostik, der optimierten Ausrüstungen und Überwachungsmaßnahmen eine dreimal so hohe Narkosemortalität aufweisen wie Erwachsene (6, 12, 20, 23).
